Hollard bags Regent in billion-rand deal

HOLLARD Insurance Group

has acquired Regent

Insurance Group South

Africa from its previous owner,

Imperial Holdings, as part of a

deal worth almost R1,8bn.

Uriah Jansen, md of Oojah

Travel Protection, which

administers Hollard’s travel

insurance, says the acquisition

means Hollard is now the

second-largest short-term

insurance provider in South

Africa.

As a result of the acquisition,

Regent Travel Insurance is

gradually being absorbed into

Hollard’s travel insurance fold.

Nic Kohler, ceo of Hollard,

says the integration of Regent

will significantly enhance

Hollard’s distribution capability.

However, the acquisition of

Regent will not result in any

immediate changes, says

Uriah. “We are engaged with

the Regent Travel Insurance

team as we bring them into

the fold, but for now, it’s really

still business as usual for

everyone.”

Oojah Travel Protection

remains the administrator

of Hollard’s travel insurance

products and agents can still

reach them and their Regent

representatives through the

same channels as before. Any

changes to contact details will

be communicated to agents in

due course.

“We are very excited about

the potential of the combined

businesses and our immediate

goal is to assess the range of

Regent products and decide

how to integrate these into

the Hollard environment to

produce the best possible

consolidated set of travel

insurance products under the

Hollard name,” adds Uriah.
