Hong Kong hub – open for business

OPERATORS are reporting

business as usual for Hong

Kong bookings, amid protests

in the city that have been ongoing

since June. Operations were

disrupted at the airport for two

days in August and all flights were

grounded.

Cathay Pacific says flight

schedules out of and to Hong Kong

are progressively returning to normal

and that, along with the airport,

the airline is working on measures

to ensure its flight operations can

resume fully.

The airline adds that, while it

understands that events have

led to concerns about its flight

operations, it is fully confident that

future bookings will pick up in the

coming months.

Celeste Muir, marketing manager

of Thompsons Holidays, says the

tour operator has been made

aware of issues in advance and

has been proactive in dealing with

flight changes.

Kananelo Makhetha, ceo of Club

Travel Corporate, says corporate

clients have either cancelled their

trips to the city or postponed them

in the hope of conditions calming

down. However, he believes the

situation in Hong Kong will soon

return to normal.

“In similar situations, when

things do calm down, we don’t

see a lot of clients rebooking their

trips, so we don’t expect that we

will be able to make up for this

loss,” Kananelo adds.

Cathay says it will remain

vigilant about any future

developments and has been

closely working with all airport

stakeholders to provide customers

with constant flight updates and

will continue to.
