HX unveils birding cruises

HX Cruises (Hurtigruten Expeditions) has announced ten itineraries focused on birdwatching in the Galápagos Islands, Antarctica and Alaska.

The cruise line is partnering with the American National Audubon Society, a bird conservation organisation, to offer these itineraries.

Each trio will host a trained ornithologist or a team of local naturalist guides to educate passengers. The routes explore a variety of ecosystems to maximise bird watching opportunities and they feature the chance to spot rare bird species.

These Aubudon voyages include the in-depth Antarctica and Patagonia Expedition Southbound in October, where passengers will have the chance to see the Pygmy Owl, the Humboldt Penguin, the Magellanic Penguin and the Southern Giant Petrel, among other species.

The “Nine of the Best Isles” Galápagos Island trip in October and December this year will allow guests to see the American Flamingo, blue-footed booby, Galápagos Hawk and Galápagos Penguin.

In addition, The “Alaska and British Columbia Inside Passage, Bears and Aleutian Islands” trip, set for July 2025, will offer a glimpse of the Black-footed Albatross, Tufted Puffin, Eastern Yellow Wagtail and Red-legged Kittiwake.

"At HX, we are deeply committed to making a positive impact on the environment," said Dr Verena Meraldi, HX’s Chief Scientist. This partnership expands on our dedication to protecting the wildlife and habitats we explore, utilising science, advocacy, education and hands-on conservation."

HX is represented by Development Promotions in the South African market.
