One of the Las Vegas Strip’s most iconic properties, The Mirage Hotel & Casino, will close on July 17 for an extensive renovation. It will be rebranded as the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas and relaunch in 2027.

The Mirage was opened in 1989 by businessman Steve Wynn. It was the first hotel in Las Vegas with a sidewalk attraction in the form of its volcano, reports CNN. Hard Rock International announced the purchase of The Mirage from MGM Resorts International in January last year, paying $1,075 billion (R20 billion) for the asset.

Work on the project to overhaul The Mirage will begin with the demolition of the volcano to make way for more rooms at the new hotel, which will also be redesigned in the shape of a 213-metre-tall guitar.

“We look forward to the beginning of an exciting journey into a new era as Hard Rock Las Vegas will ignite the Strip with entertainment, innovation and world-class hospitality,” The Mirage said on its Facebook page.
