The inaugural Eswatini Air flight touched down at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport at 08h35 on Sunday (March 26)

Minister of Public Works and Transport in Eswatini, Chief Ndlaluhlaz Ndwandwe was among the high-level passengers on the inaugural flight.

OR Tambo has, to date, welcomed back over 35 airlines post the COVID-19 pandemic and, according to the Gauteng Tourism Authority (GTA), it is estimated that the number will rise to 42 airlines by December.

GTA, which is part of the Gauteng Air Access Network, has expressed its excitement about these developments as they reinforce the city region standing as a gateway to the continent and entry point to SA tourism, trade and investment opportunities.

“We remain committed to connecting the region and the rest of the continent by air while opening more frontiers for our key source markets in Europe, the Americas, India and China,” said Sthembiso Dlamini, CEO of Gauteng Tourism Authority.

Effective this week, the airline will operate two flights a day (an early morning rotation and a late afternoon rotation) from King Mswati III International to Johannesburg.
