The service will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Flights from Madrid depart at 15h05, arriving in Johannesburg at 01h10 the following day.

Return services depart Johannesburg on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 03h10, arriving in Madrid at 13h20. The route is operated using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Responding to demand for direct connectivity between South Africa and Spain, the route is expected to add more affordable fares and shorter journeys than alternative routings to Spain.

The service also positions Madrid as a key European gateway, with onward connectivity to more than 60 destinations across Europe and Latin America. An interline agreement with Airlink further extends access to around 25 destinations across Southern Africa, enhancing regional connectivity beyond Johannesburg.

Outbound bookings from Johannesburg have shown early promise, with Air Europa expecting around 60% inbound tourism on the route. Travel agents anticipate increased competition among major carriers serving the Europe-South Africa market.
