Internet providers ramp up access

South Africans can expect better Internet speeds, cheaper data prices and more social awareness as network providers respond to the national lockdown put in place to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Vumatel and participating internet service providers (ISP) partners plan to upgrade fibre network speeds at no cost for existing customers between April 1 and May 31. All participating ISPs have also agreed to waive monthly rental fees for new customers in the process of installing fibre for the next two months.

MTN and Vodacom will introduce data price cuts effective in April among other consumer-focused solutions. They will both also be zero-rating certain websites in the days to come.
