The Irish government has extended its visa-free travel ban for South African passport holders, due to concerns around COVID-19.
The ban was initiated at the end of January, and reported in Travel News here.
Ireland’s Minister of Justice, Helen McEntee, said the ban would be extended “until it is no longer needed for public health reasons”, the Irish Times reported.
“Further visa requirements may be introduced to other non-EEA countries in the future, where they are deemed necessary and appropriate, to support public health measures approved by the government,” Helen added.
The Irish Department of Justice has also ceased accepting visa and preclearance applications from South Africa and a list of other countries, except for those considered priority or emergency, according to the Irish Times.
