Italy goes into nationwide lockdown

Italy has extended emergency COVID-19 (coronavirus) measures to the entire country.

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte banned all public gatherings to make Italy a protected zone.

The PM ordered people to stay at home and to seek permission if they need to travel for essential work or health reasons.

The emergency measures will remain in effect until April 3.
