Japan to launch express tourist buses

As a part of initiatives to reduce the impacts of overtourism on public transport, Japan is planning to introduce an express bus line to take tourists to temples and sightseeing attractions in popular cities such as Tokyo and Kyoto.

The buses will service routes to Kiyomizu-dera Temple and the Gion district, among other attractions.

The express buses will reduce the crowding on public transport, easing the stress of locals who rely on the city buses for their daily commutes, reports timeout.com.

The express bus plan will set a fare of ¥500 (R63) for adults and ¥250 (R31) for children.

The local government will also include the new sightseeing express buses in its ¥1 100 (R138) single-day transport pass, which currently allows for rides on Kyoto’s subway and buses.
