Japan, South Korea ease COVID regs

From September 7, Japan will begin easing several of its current COVID regulations.

Fully vaccinated and boosted travellers will no longer have to produce a negative COVID test result to enter the country.

Non-guided package tours will be allowed from this date, however individual tourists will still not be allowed to enter the country according to Bloomberg. In addition, the daily entry cap will be raised from the current 20 000 travellers to 50 000.

No changes to the present visa restrictions have been announced. The Japanese border is currently only open to those with Japanese nationality or a long-term, pre-issued tourist visa. Visa waivers for those with applicable passports were stopped during the pandemic.

Meanwhile, South Korea will also remove the requirement for a negative pre-departure COVID test from September 3.

Travellers will still have to take a PCR test within 24 hours of arrival in the country, and those who test positive must isolate for seven days, reports Bunbury Mail.
