Kenya adds direct CPT flights for peak season

28 Aug 2019 - by Deena Robinson

KENYA Airways is adding

two direct flights to

its Cape Town-Nairobi

service from October 27 for

the peak travel season.

The airline will then be

operating five direct flights

on the route for the high

season between October

and March.

The service will be

operated by a Boeing 737-

800, adding an extra 314

seats to Cape Town from

Nairobi every week.

Seasonal change is good

news for both inbound and

outbound markets, says

Paul van den Brink, project

manager at the Cape Town

Air Access project.

“More direct international

flights to Cape Town ease

the pressure on the busy

JNB-CPT domestic route,”

Paul says.

“The added service makes

it easier for Cape Town

corporates to travel around

Africa, especially East Africa,

as Nairobi is a convenient

hub,” says Kananelo

Makhetha, ceo of Club

Travel Corporate.

“According to data from

OAG, digital flight information

provider, there was 14%

growth seen during the first

half of 2019 between Cape

Town and Kenya,” says Paul.

“Kenya Airways has

recently expanded with new

international destinations,

like Rome, Geneva and

New York. These routes

are important unserved

inbound and outbound

destinations for Cape Town,

so the expansion of the

Cape Town flights also offers

great connectivity to those

destinations,” adds Paul.
