Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) is appealing an order by the Employment and Labour Relations Court after airport employees downed tools on Tuesday citing pending negotiations on terms of service.

“Kenya Airports Authority would like to inform the public and all its stakeholders that the announcement by Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) on the withdrawal of labour by KAA employees is based on an Order issued by the Employment and Labour Relations Court Case No. E259 of 2022.

“The Authority has proceeded to appeal against the said Order,” reads a statement issued by the KAA.

According to Kenyan daily newspaper, The Star, two weeks ago, a high court judge gave KAA ten days to conclude negotiations on reduced pay increases with airport workers.

Justice Monica Mbaru noted in her order that, should KAA refuse to comply with the new court directive, KAWU would be free to commence an industrial action that would exclude 55 union officials spread across KAA offices countrywide.

KAA Corporate Communications Manager, Angela Tilitei, told Travel News in a written reply: “Our employees reported to work and operations at the airports are normal.”
