Scheduled Kenya Airways flights are expected to return to normal from today (Wednesday, November 9) after a labour and employment court judge yesterday ordered the pilots to resume their duties "unconditionally" at 06h00 this morning.

The court also stopped the airline's management from taking disciplinary action against pilots who took part in the strike.

In a statement on Tuesday night, the Kenya Airline Pilots Association (KALPA) withdrew its strike notice and urged members to resume work today at 06h00. "Members are also urged to report to the Executive Council any incident of victimisation or disciplinary action that may be taken contrary to the court's orders," it said.

According to the Nation, the union said it regretted the disruption and inconvenience to Kenya Airways guests and urged members to immediately restore normalcy to operations.

The airline welcomed the court's directions and said it would comply. Allan Kilavuka, Kenya Airways Group MD and CEO, said in a statement: "We thank the court for the expeditious ruling that now allows KQ to resume its normal operations. We commit to complying with the court's directions."

Kenya Airports Authority posted a statement on Twitter this morning, which reads: “We would like to assure the general public and stakeholders that our staff have reported on duty and operations at all our airports are normal.”

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen also welcomed the court order yesterday.
