Kenya plans to upgrade and expand Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) over the next five years under a US$2 billion (R32,1 bn) modernisation programme.
The Government Delivery Unit (GDU) and the Kenya Airports Authority reviewed the implementation status of airport projects across the country and unveiled a breakdown of expansion plans for NBO.
According to the GDU, priority projects for the airport include the installation of modern air bridges and other equipment by June this year, the construction of a new runway by June 2027 followed by a new terminal by 2029.
The GDU says it will work closely with the Airports Authority and other key state agencies to ensure the projects are completed on schedule and within budgets.
