The DRC’s Kinshasa N’Djili Airport will undergo renovations to modernise infrastructure, improve safety standards and increase capacity.
According to local publications, the Deputy Prime Minister of Transportation, Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo, revealed that the US$500 million (R8,8 billion) project would be led by US-based architecture firm, Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, in partnership with the Congolese construction firm, Infrarose.
Construction is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2028.
The renovation will consist of a total overhaul of the current terminal building, the construction of a two-level terminal, a refurbishment of the existing runway and addition of a parallel runway, the modernisation of the tarmac and the construction of a new car park.
