Cabinet has officially approved the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture’s request to bid for the rights to host an F1 Grand Prix at Kyalami in 2027.
The announcement was made during a media briefing by Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, who said the bid would cover three consecutive years and was fully backed by private-sector funding, according to EWN.
In June, the circuit received confirmation that the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) had accepted final design proposals to upgrade it to Grade 1 status – the highest standard required to host Formula 1.
