As of March, Kyoto's overnight accommodation tax increased.
The fees are structured as follows:
- JPY200 (R20) for overnight stays costing less than JPY6 000 (R611).
- JPY400 (R41) for overnight stays costing between JPY6 000 and JPY19 999 (R2 037).
- JPY1 000 (R102) for overnight stays costing between JPY20 000 and JPY49 999 (R5 092).
- JPY4 000 (R407) for overnight stays costing between JPY50 000 and JPY99 999 (R10 183).
- JPY10 000 (R1 018) for overnight stays costing JPY100 000 or more.
The tax is based on the accommodation price per person, per night, which includes the room rate and any associated service charges but excludes meals and consumption tax.
The tax can be paid through a booking website or travel agency. Travellers can also pay it in person at their accommodation.
