Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olumbunmi Tunji-Ojo, revealed that he expects e-gates to be installed and operational at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport’s (MMIA) international terminal, Terminal 1, by the end of June.

On Friday, May 24, Tunji-Ojo and the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Services, Kemi Nandap, oversaw the User Acceptance Test of the first eight new e-gates installed in Terminal 2, the domestic terminal, reports dailytrust.com.

“Lagos airport alone has 21 gates. Lagos is where you have the major traffic... In the next three weeks from now, Lagos will be 100% good to go,” said Tunji-Ojo.

He emphasised that introducing e-gates would enhance passengers’ airport experience by making clearance through border control more efficient and streamlining security processes.

The e-gates have already been installed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. Once MMIA’s e-gates are operational, Tunji-Ojo said domestic airports in Kano, Enugu and Port Harcourt will also implement e-gates.
