Andrian Landry, GM of The Leonardo mixed-use property development, invited Travel News on a tour of its multi-purpose conference and events facilities.

The 57-floor property in Sandton is the tallest building in sub-Saharan Africa and the third-tallest on the continent. It offers hotel rooms, luxury accommodation, work offices, a spa and gym, crèche, restaurants, bar and retail options.

The building is decorated with about 960 pieces of original South African art in multiple mediums. It has three business meeting boardrooms, two meeting rooms and a conference centre, which can be divided into three venues, which are named after Leonardo Da Vinci’s mistresses.

Duncan Henn, Banqueting Manager of The Leonardo, conducted a tour through the facilities and explained the features and services.

The Aurora Boardrooms are on the third floor. Aurora I accommodates 14 people, and Aurora II and III accommodate 10 people each. Facilities include Samsung screens with high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) and wireless connections.

The Claudia Meeting Room I can accommodate 22 people and Claudia II can hold 31. The meeting rooms have two-person desks and chairs and Samsung screens with HDMI and wireless connections. Claudia I houses the artwork called the ‘Traced Perspective’ by Marcus Neustetter.

The Isabella Conference Room is divided into Isabella I, II and III, and has a maximum capacity of 300 people. It can be set up for banquets, dinners, conferences and as a lecture centre. It has a car display stand, projectors and an integrated panel surround-sound system. The entrance wall is decorated with wooden artefacts, collectively named ‘Roots’ by Winston Luthuli.

The Alto234 i bar and corporate event venue on the top floor offers a 360-degree view of the city, the only Moet champagne vending machine in Africa, and two semi-private sections for hire.

The 41st floor’s Blank Canvas venue can host social and business events, and a new event space is being constructed on the 45th floor with an indoor lounge and event space.

The Leonardo is currently working on further expanding its multi-purpose options, including more retail outlets and a new reception area.
