Letter to the editor – Quarantine could be a holiday

Submitted by: Mike

One reads of operators complaining about changes to the ‘red list’ and wonders if these operators are so isolated from the world that they do not understand the dynamics of this pandemic. Ten days ago, there were 400 000 NEW cases in one day in the world and the NEW cases in Europe on that day exceeded the NEW cases in the US, Brazil and India combined. That is why the red list keeps changing.

Quarantine is going to be a function of life for a long time as it is the only way to renew one’s health certificate when coming from one zone of infection to another. Our family has just experienced quarantining in Singapore where they were locked in a suite in a five-star hotel, so tightly that they did not experience the smell or feel of the air in Singapore until the two weeks were up.

Surely there is a market for making quarantine safaris where, with the Department of Health's approval, tourists are placed in a bubble at a game lodge for the two weeks, together with the staff, and for two weeks no one enters or leaves the facility and COVID testing is carried out at the right times.

They can do game safaris from their lodge, play sport and have a relaxing time while serving their quarantine. Obviously, this would only apply to tourists whose countries are currently on the current red list. An opportunity!
