LHR strikes – two days cancelled

The first two days (June 24 and 25) of the looming strike at Heathrow have been revoked, as a new, improved pay offer has been made to workers by the airport management, according to ttgmedia.com.

The Unite union announced on June 12 that its members who were security staff at Terminals 3 and 5, and the airport’s security campus, would no longer walk out on June 24 and 25 after receiving the offer of an improved 11,5% pay increase.

But it remains to be seen what Unite members, to be balloted on the latest offer, will say. “They will decide whether or not it meets their expectations,” said Wayne King, the union’s regional coordinating officer.

The union has warned that if the offer is rejected by members, the remaining 29 days of industrial action will continue as planned, endangering 20 000 summer flights.

The industrial action is timed to coincide with the beginning of the UK school holidays and the August bank holiday.

If the strikes continue beyond June 24 and 25, the dates affected will be:

• June 28, 29 and 30

• July 14-16, 21-24, and 28-31

• August 4-7, 11-14, 18-20 and 24-27
