London has busiest airline market

According to aviation data and analytics provider Cirium, London, (with its six international airports), is the world’s busiest airline market. Many flights out of the city connect to markets across Europe, and London is a major market for overseas travel.  

Between June 2022 and June 2023, airlines scheduled almost 97 million seats from Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, City, and Southend airports in London, whereas by comparison, New York’s three major airports offered 86 million seats during this period. 

These are London’s top international routes, ranked by available seat kms (ASK). NB, OR Tambo International (JNB) is in position 15.

3.Singapore Changi Airport- 5,6 million - 9,01 million 

4.Los Angeles International Airport - 8,21 million 

5.Hamad International Airport - 6,12 million 

6.San Francisco International Airport - 5,63 million 

7.Indira Gandhi International Airport - 4,51 million 

8.Chicago O'Hare International Airport  -4,34 million 

9.Toronto Pearson International Airport  -4,18 million 

10.Dallas Fort Worth International Airport  -4,02 million 

11.Miami International Airport - 3,86 million 

12.Hong Kong International Airport - 3,86 million 

13.Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport - 3,70 million 

14.Boston Logan International Airport - 3,70 million 

15.OR Tambo International Airport - 3,54 million 

16.Newark Liberty International Airport - 3,54 million 

17.Suvarnabhumi Airport - 3,33 million 

18.Orlando International Airport - 3,06 million 

19.Dulles International Airport - 2,89 million 

20.Ben Gurion Airport - 2,74 million
