Lufthansa Group makes changes to Miles & More

13 Dec 2017 - by The Editor

The Lufthansa Group airlines are to change the way passengers earn miles on the Miles & More frequent flyer and reward programme from March 2018.  Passengers will earn miles based on the cost of a ticket plus any additional fees as well as individual frequent flyer status rather than being rewarded according to the booking class and route length of a flight. The new system applies to Lufthansa Group airlines Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings. Flights on other Miles & More partner airlines will also qualify for the new system so long as tickets have been issued by an LH Group airline. Passenger frequent flyer status and relevant privileges plus the allocation of status miles will not be affected by the new system. Availability of flight rewards will not be affected. Miles & More participants will earn at least four award miles per euro spent with Group airlines. Bonus award miles for frequent flyer status will earn members six miles per euro spent, doubling award miles to 50% from the current 25% for flights with network airlines and transatlantic joint venture partner airlines Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, United Airlines and Air Canada. The same system will apply to flights on Adria Airways, Air Dolomiti, Croatia Airlines and LOT Polish Airlines. Frequent flyers will receive five award miles per euro on Eurowings, Brussels Airlines and all other partner airlines. Only tickets issued by a Lufthansa Group airline will qualify.  The existing system for earning award miles will still be applied in the instance where a traveller is flying with a Lufthansa Group airline but the ticket was issued by an airline outside of the group, as part of a package tour or by a different Miles & More partner airline. The new system will be applied from March 12, 2018. Tickets booked before that date will earn award miles on the current system even if the trip starts on or after March 12.
