London Luton Airport (LTN), in partnership with East Midlands Railway, will introduce an airport express service to start in December.
The proposed schedule is expected to be finalised in a few months. However, currently trains are scheduled to run a half hourly, non-stop service between 06h00 and 22h00 between London St Pancras and Luton Airport Parkway.
There will also be late-night and early-morning services for passengers departing from the airport.
Alberto Martin, ceo of LTN, says the new express service could reduce car journeys to the airport by 70 000 a year.
Plans to further improve the partnership include LTN’s construction of a Direct Air-Rail Transit service set to launch in 2021. This service will reduce travel time for passengers from London to the airport to just 30 minutes.
