Meikles Hotel in Harare has been renamed Hyatt Regency Harare, following the purchase of the property by Albwardy of the UAE for USD20 million (R368m) in 2019.

Over the last five years, the hotel has successfully undergone significant renovations and refurbishments in keeping with a luxury hotel, reports thezimbabwemail.com.

The Hyatt Regency Harare will welcome its first guests in August, during the SADC summit, which will attract regional leaders to the capital.

The hotel is also expected to play a pivotal role in hosting international cricket teams during the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup. Zimbabwe, along with South Africa and Namibia will jointly host the event.
