Minion Land opens in Florida

22 Aug 2023

Minion Land officially opened at Universal Studios Florida on August 11, with a line-up of new family-friendly experiences and dining options at the amusement park.

The annual supervillain convention, suitable for children and adults, features exhibitor booths like the Bank of Evil (‘Ready for Evil Deeds? Villainous Loans: Sign up in blood today…’), while the show floor is filled with everything a baddie may need such as pets (‘Corrupt Companions’), vehicles (‘Malicious Motors’), weapons (‘Unlawful Outfitters’), vacations (‘Devious Destinations’) and fashion (‘Diabolique Boutique’).

The park offers more games than rides. The Villain-Con Minion Blast allows guests to practise their aiming-skills on a conveyor walkway that takes them through a series of screens with countless moving targets and accomplice minions to achieve the mission.

Illumination’s Minion Café is the main dining location in Minion Land. The café has colourful seating areas themed with settings from the Despicable Me and Minions movies including the Kitchen, the Breakroom and the Dining Room, all of them hiding Easter Eggs (from the movies).

The café serves speciality dishes like Despica-Bowls, Otto’s Noodle Bowl (udon served in a minion-faced vessel), Minion Tots, Otto’s Pet Rock (a mousse-based dessert disguised as a rock) and The Antidote (a banana cream pie in milkshake form). There are also Minion-themed snack stands including Pop-A-Nana, (banana-flavoured popcorn), Freeze Ray Pops (exotic-flavoured popsicles), and Bake My Day, a pink bakery that sells cupcakes, macarons, s’mores, cake pops and candy apples.

At Illumination Theatre, characters from the ‘Minions’ and ‘Sing’ movie franchises walk the red carpet to meet and greet guests.
