The Independent recently reported on the overnight adventure of an Estonian man, Pavel, who, after a night of drinking, climbed a mountain instead of returning to his hotel room.
According to the Independent, after a day of skiing, Pavel, who is in his 20s, enjoyed his evening drinks a little too much at the Cervinia resort in Italy’s Valle d’Osta. Heading back to his hotel, he took the wrong street and ended up on the ski run heading toward the summit.
At around 02h00, he found a chalet, which turned out to be Igloo, a bar and restaurant above Cervinia, at an altitude of 2 400m.
“It is believed the tourist didn’t notice his mistake even once the ‘street’ took a steep turn upwards, and continued up the ever more steep piste, known as the Ventina,” the article says.
A search party that included the fire brigade, police, and even drones, eventually found Pavel, who had broken into Igloo using his hotel room key, sleeping on a bench he had padded with cushions.
“Everything went well for him,” Alessandro Zavattaro, owner of Igloo, told La Stampa. “It’s not that cold.”
