Monday Smile: Japan trials robots at HND

Japan Airlines will deploy robots at Tokyo Haneda airport to carry out ground-handling tasks from May.

According to the airline, the two-year trial is aimed at easing employees' workload as Japan’s aviation industry faces a ground-handling labour shortage due to an increase in inbound tourism and a declining working-age population.

Initially, the robots will be deployed to load and unload cargo containers and will eventually be able to handle passengers’ luggage as well as clean the aircraft cabin.
