MSC has announced that its local cruises have started.
On Sunday, January 9, the MSC Orchestra cast off from Durban with about 1 000 South African holidaymakers looking forward to a relaxing and safe holiday at sea.
“We have worked hard in tandem with our ports of embarkation in Durban and Cape Town to implement an industry-leading health and safety protocol that goes above the requirements set by the South African Maritime Safety Authority,” said a press release from the company, emphasising that health and safety were always the number-one priority.
Some of the key measures in place:
*All guests aged 12 years and above must be fully vaccinated.
*All guests aged two and above have to submit a negative result from an RT-PCR test taken 48 hours prior to boarding.
*All crew members are fully vaccinated, regularly tested and follow strict health and safety policies.
*Additional measures include the wearing of masks indoors, maintaining physical distancing, following best practice when it comes to personal hygiene as well as stringent sanitation measures throughout the ship.
“We thank the local, regional and national authorities who have worked to help kick-start the cruise industry in South Africa, an integral part of the country’s tourism sector,” said MSC Cruises.
