MSC – twice as nice

CRUISING in Southern

Africa is still in its

infancy, with massive

potential, says Ross Volk,

md of MSC Cruises in

South Africa.

With a 25% growth in

passengers over the past

year, the company had

little choice but to increase

the number of vessels

deployed in Southern

Africa. Early estimates also

indicate that passenger

numbers will increase

from around 130 000 to

170 000 in 2020/21,

representing a further

28% growth.

“Cruising is still a young

industry, with a lot of

capacity to grow,” Ross

says. Customers are

beginning to understand

the value a cruising holiday

offers, he says. “One would

be hard pressed to find a

better vacation option than

a cruise, considering the

value proposition on board

a vessel. It is possibly

the best value-for-money

holiday that one can have

in Southern Africa.”

On January 12 the

MSC Orchestra, which

predominantly sails out

of Durban, set sail for

Walvis Bay in Namibia for

the first time with just over

3 200 passengers on

board. The five-day cruise

left Cape Town in fair

weather, docking in Walvis

Bay on January 14.
