Nairobi hotel to be rebranded as Marriott

Sankara Nairobi, a five-star hotel in the
Kenyan capital, will trade under the Marriott brand from early next year
following the recent signing of a franchise agreement with the American
hospitality group, Marriott International.

The announcement was made during the Africa
Hotel Investment Forum (AHIF).

Marriott says the property, located in
Nairobi’s upmarket Westlands area, will trade under its premium or upscale
category, the Autograph Collection.

Alex Kyriakidis, President and md of Marriott for the Middle East and
Africa (MEA), said: “We believe this hotel is a perfect fit for the brand and
the rebranding is in lockstep with growing demand from consumers and their
desire for unique and differentiated experiences wherever they travel,” reports
Business Daily.

He said the
rebranding gave Sankara Hotel access to Marriott International’s powerful and
world-class reservation systems and loyalty programmes.

According to Business Daily, Kyriakidis described the
deal as a franchise agreement with Westlands Hotels that retains Sankara Hotel
Group as the facility’s managers.

Sankara, which is
owned by Westlands Hotels Limited, opened in 2010.
