Netherlands to scrap Golden Visa

18 Oct 2023
Comments | 0

The Netherlands has decided to abolish its Golden Visa Programme from the start of 2024, said the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (NLS) in a statement, reports schengenvisainfo.com.

“The residence permit for investors will no longer be available from 1 January 2024,” said the NLS.

The Golden Visa Programme permits wealthy foreign investors to acquire residence by contributing at least €1 250 000 (R25 003 900) to the Dutch economy. The requirements include holding a valid travel document, confirmation that no risk is posed to public order or national security, and taking a tuberculosis test on arrival. There are more rules around the investment.

The Golden Visa Programme was introduced in 2013 as part of an effort to help further grow the country’s economy. In 2018, the country introduced some changes to this scheme after its popularity in the first years was low.
