A new angle on sightseeing

SIGHTSEEING trips in minibus taxis, open 4x4s, hot-air balloons and even motorcycles are quite common in South Africa these days, but few have experienced a township tour on a donkey cart.
The newly launched Donkey Cart Express Township Tours introduces the traditional mode of township transport to overseas visitors with day trips to Port Elizabeth's Walmer Township.
"Travelling through the streets looking at homes, schools, buildings and meeting the people with guides providing interesting background talks, provides an insight into past and present township life," says tour organiser Rob Lourens.
