The 2020 Tokyo Olympics will take place exactly a year after this year’s original date, from July 23 to August 8, 2021.
The new dates for the Paralympic Games are August 24 until September 5, 2021.
The International Olympic Committee, the International Paralympic Committee, the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, the Tokyo Metropolitan government and the Government of Japan believe that the new dates give the health authorities and all involved in the organisation of the Games enough time to deal with the constantly changing landscape and the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
