No more on-board ticket sales for Gatwick Express

SOUTHERN, the rail company that operates the Gatwick Express, has unveiled plans to install a ticket barrier system at the airport and at London’s Victoria station and passengers will no longer be able to pay fares on board. The installation of these barriers at the airport and at London’s Victoria station will mean air travellers in a hurry will have to queue to pay fares and potentially miss trains and flights.

Meanwhile, rail union RMT is preparing to ballot Gatwick Express staff over possible strike action as it says the proposals mean on-board conductors, who sell tickets, could be made redundant.
