Norwegian Dawn gets all-clear from MRU

After the Mauritius Ports Authority stopped NCL’s Norwegian Dawn from docking at Port Louis last Saturday, February 24, and placed it in quarantine due to concerns over a potential health risk, medical tests by the Mauritius authorities have now ruled out cholera and given the all-clear, allowing passengers to disembark and the ship to continue with its itineraries,

A number of passengers had had symptoms of gastro-enteritis on departure from Cape Town. After taking samples from the sick passengers, the authorities confirmed late yesterday that it was indeed gastro-enteritis, according to bbc.com.

The passengers who had been sick have all recovered, according to bbc.com. But they will be subject to screening by health authorities upon disembarking from the liner and the Mauritius Ministry of Health will provide medical assistance for all at the disembarkation point.

The ship arrived in Mauritian waters on Saturday evening, a day early because it bypassed Réunion, having been unable to dock there the same health-related reasons.

There are believed to be 2 184 passengers on the ship - 2 000 had planned to disembark in Port Louis yesterday and another 2 000 were waiting to embark. This is now scheduled to take place today (February 27).
