“Mentor”, “coach”, “exceptional”, “articulate and excellent”, “a guru”.
These are just a few of the terms used by members of the travel industry to describe Dr Alex Granger, who died last week of COVID-19. Alex was reportedly in his early forties.
Alex was a friend to many in the travel and MICE industries, and a networker par excellence. Through his business, Thinkshifter, he was an accomplished, polished and popular public speaker and MC.
He had the gift of a light and quirky sense of humour and could leaven a heavy atmosphere in a room very quickly. But he was also an academic with an incisive brain, and the author of six business books on topics such as sales, leadership, personal mastery and African insights.
Alex had a reputation as something of a snappy dresser, and was usually the best turned-out gentleman in the room.
“Dr Alex Granger was an exceptional human being. He led from the front. He lived a full, meaningful life, challenging and inspiring all who knew him to fulfil their dreams and ambitions. He will be remembered as one of the greatest mentors we have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Sincere condolences to his family and all who loved him,” said Vanya Lessing, ceo of Sure Travel.
“Your expressions, your quirks, your style, your talent, your faith, your soul and not forgetting that funny laugh of yours…” said Robyn Christie, professional speaker and travel industry personality, on Facebook.
Alex had a side career as a Christian singer.
He leaves his wife, Susan, and his two children, Nicola and Cedric.
