Paris to host one-of-a-kind Olympics

A century after Paris last hosted the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the City of Light will once again present the Olympics from July 24, 2024.

The Opening Ceremony will, for the first time ever, rather than be contained in one stadium, take place in the heart of Paris.

The athletes will be carried under the iconic bridges of the Seine in a small fleet of boats for the launch of the Paris Games. The choice to officially launch the Olympics on the Seine is part of a long-term strategy to continue promoting the river as an attraction for both tourists and locals to visit.

The 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games will also promote tourism in France’s other cities and overseas territories, through accompanying sailing events in Marseille and surfing in Tahiti.

“Rest assured, the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony will be nothing short of magical. Its staging will be ground-breaking. It will be a ceremony for the people, open to one and all. It will show the world the very best of France,” says Tony Estanguet, President of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

In addition to the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, France will also host the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Courchevel and Méribel from February 6-19, 2023, and the Rugby World Cup from September 8-October 28, 2023.
