Qatar Airways will operate up to 35 weekly flights to South Africa during the summer peak season.

With the start of the Southern hemisphere summer season at the end of October, the carrier will operate 11 weekly flights to Cape Town, rising to 12 between December 17 and January 13.

Johannesburg services are now 18 per week since October 27 for the season. Durban will be served five times a week via Mozambique.

Thierry Antinori, Qatar Airways Chief Commercial Officer, said: “South Africa is a popular tourism destination and a vital part of our business across the African continent.”

The summer schedule to South Africa comes on the back of previously voiced commitment to the African continent by Qatar Airways as it announced the acquisition of a 25% share in South African independent carrier, Airlink.

QR serves a network of more than 170 destinations from its home base, Hamad International Airport in Doha.
