24 Jul 2023

As the long-running dispute over pay and working conditions in the rail sector of the UK spools on, members of the Rail, Maritime, and Transport (RMT) and Aslef unions have begun the next round of strikes.

According to The Guardian, 20 000 members of the RMT union from 14 different rail companies began the first of three 24-hour strikes on July 20, the second strike took place on July 22, and the third day of strikes will take place on July 29.

Meanwhile, Aslef members will continue with industrial action in the form of Monday to Saturday overtime bans from July 31 to August 5. These actions have been taking place throughout July, with the most recent having concluded on July 22, reports the Independent.

In addition to this, a London Underground strike involving RMT members began yesterday (July 23) and will continue until July 28.

Travellers have been advised to travel only if necessary on these days as services will be significantly reduced.
