Royal Caribbean International’s Serenade of the Seas arrived in South Africa on May 24 as the latest port of call for guests sailing onboard the brand’s Ultimate World Cruise.

The ship’s ‘Ultimate African and Mediterranean’ segment saw Serenade call at Port Elizabeth on May 24, Mossel Bay on May 25, followed by an overnight stay in Cape Town on May 26 and 27, before heading to Namibia and Tenerife.

The Ultimate World Cruise is currently underway. It began in Miami on December 10, 2023, and will return later this year, on September 10. The 274-night experience will visit all seven continents, more than 150 destinations in 65 countries and 11 great wonders of the world.

Cruising around the tip of Africa, passengers could visit the nature reserves in Addo or Amakhala to witness the Big Five in the Eastern Cape. Taking advantage of the overnight stay in Cape Town, guests could take a morning cable car to the summit of Table Mountain to admire views of the Mother City at 3 500 feet above sea level. Visitors were also able to walk along Boulders Beach and see the African penguins.

Those onboard Serenade of the Seas can enjoy nightly live entertainment, rock climbing and much more. Highlights also include the two-level dining room and bespoke restaurants that provide a range of cuisines. Passengers can stay close to the action with the ship’s acres of glass, which offers panoramic views to showcase the shores of Africa.

Cruises International is the representative for Royal Caribbean in the South African market.
