Since March 5, the following entry regulations apply for entry into Rwanda.
All travellers must have a negative COVID-19 certificate – the only accepted test result is that of a PCR test performed in the 72 hours prior to departure. Other tests, such as Rapid Diagnostics Tests (RDTs), are not accepted.
The test certificate is not mandatory for accompanied children under five.
At Kigali International Airport, all incoming travellers eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and above) are encouraged to be fully vaccinated before they travel.
All travellers, whether arriving or transiting in Rwanda, must complete the passenger locator form and upload the Covid-19 PCR test certificate before heading to the airport. The form can be found at www.rbc.gov.rw. www.rbc.gov.rw/index.php?id=188
COVID-19 RT-PCR and antigen rapid tests will be performed on inbound passengers on arrival, at the passenger’s cost, and the passengers are required to self-isolate until they get a negative PCR test result. The cost for this airport testing is US$65 (around R986), as per the indications on the passenger locator form – pre-payment is advised. Once self-isolated at the hotel, the result of the arrival PCR test can be checked on RBC results portal by using phone number entered while filling in the PLF and the unique code received when submitting the PLF prior to departure or by SMS or email, with a turnaround time of 24hrs.
Travellers transiting for more than 12 hours through Rwanda will be screened upon entry and must take a PCR test at their own cost, while transiting travellers remaining at the airport, who are transiting in less than 12 hours will be screened upon entry and not required to take a second test. (This is different from regulations for transiting passengers by land borders.)
All travellers departing from Rwanda must test negative for COVID-19. The only accepted test is a PCR performed within the 72 hours before departure. The PCR test must be performed by the Rwanda Biomedical Centre/National Reference Laboratory, Provincial or District Hospitals. Other tests, such as Rapid Diagnostics Tests (RDTs), are not accepted for international travellers. The departure COVID-19 Test is not mandatory for accompanied children under five years. Travellers are advised to check with airlines about the COVID-19 requirements of the final destination and/or transit countries and plan for their RT-PCR test accordingly. All Rwandans travellers eligible (aged 12 years and above) for COVID-19 vaccine departing from Rwanda must be fully vaccinated.
Travellers are not allowed to go to the airport without a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test result.
