Ryanair flags EES delay hotspots

Ryanair has identified seven European airports where passengers are facing the longest delays following the introduction of the EU’s new Entry/Exit System (EES).

According to the airline, Paris Beauvais (France), Milan Bergamo (Italy), Tenerife South; Palma; Alicante; and Malaga (all in Spain), and Krakow (Poland) are experiencing major disruptions, with further congestion expected during the busiest weeks of summer.

EES checks require passengers to scan their passports, provide fingerprints and have their photo taken. Ryanair warned that many airports did not have enough staff or kiosks to handle the extra checks during the busy summer travel season.

“Ryanair is again calling on European governments to suspend the roll-out of EES until September, when the busiest travel period has passed, to prevent passengers from being forced to suffer long and avoidable passport control queues,” said the airline.
