SA airports escape fuel shortage

To secure fuel supply to South African airports, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) has extended its licences for temporary special customs and excise storage warehouses for jet fuel until October 31, 2026.

The licences enable the continued importation of aviation kerosene to supply OR Tambo International Airport.

The Fuels Industry Association of South Africa (Fiasa) CEO, Avhapfani Tshifularo, had previously warned the industry that without this extension, South African airports could face more jet fuel shortages, as reported by Travel News.

In a letter from the Acting SARS Commissioner Johnstone Makhubu to the Fuels Industry Association of South Africa (Fiasa), SARS confirmed the extension of the licences for Fiasa members.

“The extension is a critical intervention in safeguarding South Africa’s security of supply, particularly for the aviation sector and communities that rely on illuminating kerosene,” Fiasa said in a statement.
