SA airports score at Skytrax

Cape Town International Airport has won the Best Airport in Africa award at the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2023 for the eighth consecutive year. 

This year’s awards were held on March 15 at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Amsterdam. 

Skytrax launched its first global Airport Customer Satisfaction Survey in 1999, where travellers from around the world take part to decide the winners. The survey evaluates traveller experiences across different airport services and product key performance indicators, including check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security, and immigration.

The airports voted best in Africa were:

  1. Cape Town International Airport
  2. King Shaka International Airport
  3. OR Tambo International Airport
  4. Mohammed V International Airport
  5. Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport
  6. Marrakesh Menara Airport
  7. Addis Ababa Bole International Airport
  8. Kigali International Airport
  9. Jomo Kenyatta International Airport
  10. Bram Fischer International Airport

Cape Town also won the Best Airport Staff in Africa award for the third year, while Durban won Best Regional Airport in Africa and OR Tambo won Best Airport Hotel in Africa. 

“These are remarkable achievements for our airports and proof that we are upholding our status with world-class standards in our airports,” said Tourism Minister, Patricia De Lille

“South Africa remains one of the world’s top tourist destinations and the Department of Tourism stands ready to support and work with all stakeholders to accelerate all programmes that will see the tourism sector increase its contribution to our economy and create more jobs for our people.”
