SA-Mozambique one-stop border to ease congestion

A one-stop border post between South Africa and Mozambique at Lebombo-Ressano Garcia is expected to reduce border crossing time and ease congestion.
Last week, Parliament’s standing committee on finance adopted a bilateral agreement between the two countries to implement the border post, Business Day reported.
According to the report, Parliament is in the process of ratifying the bilateral legal framework for the post. Similar agreements are expected to be replicated in other parts of the Southern African Development Community, including SA’s border with Zimbabwe at Beitbridge.
Briefing the standing committee on finance in support of the one-stop border post last year, SARS Commissioner, Oupa Magashula, said the benefits included reduced border crossing time, reduced logistics costs and data sharing.

eTNW has contacted the Department of Home Affairs to establish when the new border post is likely to be implemented. The department has yet to respond.
