SAA pulls more Hong Kong flights

Agents are questioning whether SAA will reinstate flights to Hong Kong later this month.

The airline temporarily suspended services on November 23, saying it would resume services on December 15. This was to curb significant financial losses, it said at the time.

Agents report that more flights have been cancelled in the GDS, with lower booking classes closed off for the remaining 2020 departures still reflecting.

According to GDS displays pulled on December 4, lower booking classes for 2020 Johannesburg-Hong Kong departures have been blocked off. M class fares are reflecting as the lowest available booking class with an all-in price starting from R25 720 per person return.

Concerned about the closure of lower booking classes, director of Marmalade Bespoke Travel, David van den Heever-Liebenberg, contacted his Johannesburg SAA representative who confirmed over email that SAA’s Hong Kong flights had now been cancelled until January 15, he told eTNW.

Availability displays also reveal that the Johannesburg-Hong Kong schedule has been reduced. David confirmed that flights are now only departing from Johannesburg on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and returning on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
