SAFc tool measures SAF impact

08 Dec 2023

SAFc Registry, a new certification tool designed to track and measure the impact of SAF, has been launched by RMI in collaboration with several carriers, including United Airlines, Microsoft, and the Environmental Defense Fund, among others.

“RMI is building a digital sustainable aviation fuel certificate (SAFc) registry with EnergyWeb to bring more transparency and consistency to the emerging SAF certificate market,” says RMI.

The SAFc Registry will aim to assess more accurately how much SAF reduces CO₂ emissions. SAF can comprise a range of different compounds, including animal fats and forestry products. Because each has a different emissions profile, tools that can measure these distinct variations are key.

“The aim of the SAFc Registry is to create the consistency, transparency, and auditability of SAF certificates that is necessary to build trust, scale SAFc uptake, and signal strong demand signal for new SAF supply,” says the SAFc Registry on its website.
