Singapore Airlines is investing US$1,1 billion (R19,2 billion) in a multi-year programme to upgrade its A350-900 long-haul aircraft – including the aircraft used on its Johannesburg route – and its ultra-long-range aircraft.
The carrier will introduce first-class cabins to its 34 A350s, and business class is to be renovated to provide more privacy and comfort. First-class and business-class seats will now feature new in-flight entertainment screens. Premium-economy class will also undergo a refresh.
The first retrofitted A350-900 is expected to enter service in the second quarter of 2026.
The entire programme is due for completion by the end of 2030.
Post-retrofit, the A350-900 long-haul aircraft will be configured with 42 business-class seats, 24 premium economy-class seats, and 192 economy-class seats.
